Bio
Daniel Zimberoff is a Top Gun graduate, combat veteran, and former trial attorney turned author and advocate. After his father’s decision to pursue an assisted death, Daniel became a voice to help establish the right for those with terminal illness or intolerable suffering to choose a dignified death. When not advocating or writing, he can be found spending time with his wife Salima and their daughter, Ellie, and his adult children Levi and Ariel, or playing beer league hockey. Compelled by his father’s last wish, “Wingman” marks his debut work of narrative nonfiction. His previously published works include Avoiding Homeowner Wars: A Comprehensive Guide to Successful HOA Governance, and The Last Top Gun, a Story of the Last Generation of Navy Fighter Jocks.

During his legal career, including licensure in Washington, Oregon, and California state and federal courts, Daniel was a criminal prosecutor, start-up general counsel, and civil litigator.
In 2015, Daniel was granted a fellowship into the prestigious College of Community Association Lawyers, one of less than 150 attorneys in the nation designated with the honor. In 2023, Daniel retired from the practice of law to pursue writing full-time.
For several years Daniel co-hosted a popular weekly radio show, “Condo and HOA Buzz,” which has evolved into a podcast inspiring community building across the globe. He has spoken at countless legal and industry educational seminars and conferences and is interviewed regularly by television and print media on homeowner association issues.
Daniel had a distinguished military career. He is a graduate of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (“Top Gun”). His logbook includes over 350 catapult shots and arrested landings in an F-14 Tomcat (with the same number of landings as takeoffs) and two West-Pac carrier deployments including combat operations during the first Gulf War. He served in the Special Operations Directorate (J3) of the Joint Staff at the Pentagon while completing evening law school. He successfully commanded two reserve intelligence units. Daniel was mobilized as an intelligence reservist a week after 9/11, where he spent a year on the staff of the Commander Pacific Fleet briefing admirals in the Global War on Terrorism. After 25 years of combined active and reserve service, he retired from the Navy as a Captain in 2011.
When not reading or typing on a keyboard, Daniel can be found playing beer league hockey, traveling, or spending quality time with his wife Salima and three kids, Levi, Ariel, and Ellie.
