Bio

Daniel Zimberoff is a combat veteran and former trial attorney turned author. Daniel’s writings have appeared in numerous print and online military, industry, and legal periodicals.

In 2022, his non-fiction book, “Avoiding Homeowner Wars: A Comprehensive Guide to Successful HOA Governance,” was published. The book includes dozens of real-life case studies coupled with numerous best practices and scores of tangible resources promoting skilled leadership for the millions of homeowners, (largely volunteer) board members, and professional managers who live and work within the HOA industry.

In 2014, he published his debut novel, “The Last Top Gun.” The book captures the lives of Navy fighter pilots at the end of an era where they were part rock stars, part Olympic athletes in the sky, and members of the last great fraternity of airborne warriors.

Daniel’s memoir, “Wingman: Escorting my Father to a Dignified Death,” is scheduled for publication in late 2025.

During his legal career, including licensure in Washington, Oregon, and California state and federal courts, Daniel was a criminal prosecutor, start-up general counsel, and civil litigator.

In 2015, Daniel was granted a fellowship into the prestigious College of Community Association Lawyers, one of less than 150 attorneys in the nation designated with the honor. In 2023, Daniel retired from the practice of law to pursue writing full-time.

For several years Daniel co-hosted a popular weekly radio show, “Condo and HOA Buzz,” which has evolved into a podcast inspiring community building across the globe. He has spoken at countless legal and industry educational seminars and conferences and is interviewed regularly by television and print media on homeowner association issues.

Daniel had a distinguished military career. He is a graduate of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (“Top Gun”). His logbook includes over 350 catapult shots and arrested landings in an F-14 Tomcat (with the same number of landings as takeoffs) and two West-Pac carrier deployments including combat operations during the first Gulf War. He served in the Special Operations Directorate (J3) of the Joint Staff at the Pentagon while completing evening law school. He successfully commanded two reserve intelligence units. Daniel was mobilized as an intelligence reservist a week after 9/11, where he spent a year on the staff of the Commander Pacific Fleet briefing admirals in the Global War on Terrorism. After 25 years of combined active and reserve service, he retired from the Navy as a Captain in 2011.

When not reading or typing on a keyboard, Daniel can be found playing beer league hockey, traveling, or spending quality time with his wife Salima and three kids, Levi, Ariel, and Ellie.
